There are over thirteen million objects there. They represent the story of human culture from its beginning to the present. The British Museum was founded in 1753, more than 250 years ago. It has been opened to the public since 1759. The Round Reading Room, which is in the centre of Great Court, opened in 1857. Many famous writers have studied there since then.
